Original specifications called for a worker safety use case of mustering people during emergencies through Active Directory integration and sheltering for severe weather. Many iterations later it turned into design/development of software, and deployment of a simple Wi-Fi asset tracking system to reduce "boots on ground" time to locate high dollar and mission critical equipment in 170,000+ sq ft facility.
Served as subject matter expert (SME) from start to finish for tasks such as obtaining executive buy-in, drafting an interactive proposal to offer multiple product lines, creating a solution design along with deployment plan after a site survey, oversee wireless infrastructure installation along with other RFID hardware configuration - tags/exciters, updating User Guides and assist client with creating SOP manuals, and training end-users to improve adoption as well as instructing administrators on best practices.
Sales cycle began in 2017 and final installation sign off took place in 2023, then it became an annual support contract.

Kidd Creek Mine
I served as subject matter expert for over 10 years on a custom Ventilation on Demand (VOD) solution that controlled air flow to mining shafts by tracking miners wearing integrated cap lamps through work zones in the world's deepest base metal mine. A proprietary system sold to Glencore. The original scope required an API call to control PLCs but a memory leak in code required it to be written in JSON. Several iterations later, a heartbeat for PLCs and accumulator counts of miners from Wi-Fi were incorporated into a quick reference Graphical User Interface (GUI). Ultimately, this system eliminated manual start/stop functions for fans and created millions of dollars in ROI which extended the life of site for an additional 9+ years and kept hundreds of people employed beyond expected closure date. It was subsidized by the Canadian government for energy savings too.

Key Achievements

Safety: Ensuring people were not in zones before shutting down fans was the most important part of implementation. This was done by using a queue-based integration, which prioritized personnel tag data and utilized a self-correcting logic to maintain accurate counts even if individual network messages were missed.

Energy & Cost Savings: Engineered a Ventilation-On-Demand (VOD) integration that automates fan control based on real-time personnel counts, significantly reducing mine operating costs.

Resilient Architecture: Designed for Mission-Critical Uptime: Architected a High-Availability (HA) system with active-passive failover for the location engine and application servers, ensuring zero downtime for critical safety monitoring.
Vale Canada Limited
As with most every underground mine, Vale's challenge is maintaining productivity, safety and profitability while coping with rising energy costs. I spearheaded a complex, multi-site infrastructure migration for Vale's mining operations, transitioning five geographically dispersed sites from a centrally hosted colocation (COLO) environment to a modernized, distributed network architecture. In addition to managing a mixed-scope deployment involving net-new software/hardware installations alongside legacy manufacturer upgrades, while eliminating single points of failure without interrupting active production environment.

Legacy Infrastructure Migration: Managed the complex transition from a production system to a modernized Cisco/AeroScout stack, ensuring zero disruption to mining operations.
Cross-Functional Coordination: Acted as the primary liaison between vendor consultants and Vale’s Project Managers and SME to synchronize technical delivery with business requirements to minimize operation risk and safety standards.

Scope & Schedule Governance: Defined and managed the project approach, implementation schedule, and overall migration plan/path, ensuring the prompt delivery of services following contract finalization.
Business Continuity Planning: Governed a comprehensive system backup and map export/import strategy for Cisco and AeroScout appliances, establishing secure roll-back protocols that reduced failed-migration risk to a minor 2-hour window.
Knowledge Transfer Strategy: Orchestrated a formal Transition to Support program, delivering technical training sessions on architecture, troubleshooting, and escalation methods to ensure long-term site autonomy.

Climax Molybdenum
I managed the end-to end annual support contract of a critical Real-Time Location System (RTLS) for Freeport-McMoRan's Henderson underground mining facility and fully-remote upgrades needed to achieve client driven KPIs. Tasked with strict manufacturers requirements, I led international stakeholder coordination across UK, Israel, and the United States (EST, CST, and MST) to transform an outdated on-premise infrastructure into a modern cloud SaaS platform. In a nutshell, this site revamped legacy Cisco network equipment and required a scope of acceptance criteria which focused on utilizing as much technology currently in place from AeroScout as possible and minimize user impact. Overall, existing hardware, maps, and structured data were reused to track miners entrance and exit from mine. The final system completely eliminated an inefficient, manual paper-and-key logging process, automated mustering for blasting zones, provided worker location in refuge chambers, replaced EOL equipment, and cut ongoing support and maintenance costs by over 50%.

Key Achievements
The Challenge: Overhauled ("brass in/brass out") system and wireless manufacturer requirements across global partners in the UK, Israel, and the United States time zones while replacing GUI (Graphical User Interface) and virtual appliances.
The Solution: Architected a solution design that replaced the proprietary network equipment a robust infrastructure - repurpose RTLS equipment and modernize a tracking system that replaced manual tasks.

The Impact: Slashed ongoing maintenance and support costs by over 50% by migrating an Enterprise On-Prem solution to a cloud-based SaaS platform.

The Result: Successful deployment of existing data, hardware, and maps to establish automated digital accountability for miner safety, positive location identification in refuge chambers, and verified clearance of active blasting zones.
ExxonMobil Global Service Company
Commonly found with many large corporate campuses, there's a industrial tunnel system to connect the buildings. Execution of a pilot in Texas to secure and track high-value utility carts across tunnel networks led to a global service agreement after fulfilling a separate engagement contract that was sourced through Anixter to provide people tracking devices used in turnaround for worker safety in Louisiana. Professional services were a part of both. ​

Situation: ExxonMobil required a scalable, pilot-phase solution to improve asset visibility and security for a fleet of Taylor-Dunn utility carts operating across enterprise tunnels and a Central Utilities Plant (CUP).

Task: Entrusted with architecting a comprehensive Solution Design Document for a Real-Time Location System (RTLS) to track directional asset movement, enforce security boundaries, and automate inventory alerts.

Action: Designed a multi-layered asset tracking system integrating AeroScout Wi-Fi tags, exciters, and a Cisco MSE. Formulated rule-based operational logic to trigger automated email alerts during egress violations, physical tag tampering, or when inventory fell outside par levels.

Result: Delivered a production-ready blueprint establishing automated inventory management, historical data reporting, and robust security monitoring, paving a clear, repeatable path for campus-wide infrastructure scaling.
The Peninsula Hotel

Originally built as the Gotham Hotel on Fifth Avenue in New York, NY - this property focused on staff safety when installing a duress (panic button) system for housekeepers. It was designed for room level accuracy with Ultrasonic technology that sent preprogrammed messages via text and email to security and management users by pressing a call button on a tag worn by staff. My contribution took place after the initial installation by conducting a site survey, managing updates to Ruckus Wi-Fi, facilitate firmware changes to hardware, supply materials, and coordinate technical support in order bring the system back online after laying dormant for over 5 years.
Completion of this project was a quick success. It took less than 6 months from discovery to sign-off and offered sponsorship to the Beverly Hills property.
